F80 – FERRARI’S NEW SUPERCAR. AN INTRODUCTION

 In Cars

Ferrari has just unveiled the F80, a supercar destined to join the ranks of iconic models like the GTO and LaFerrari Aperta. Limited to only 799 units, the F80 represents the pinnacle of Ferrari’s technological innovation, pushing the boundaries of performance and design. Powered by a V6-hybrid powertrain delivering an astounding 1,200 horsepower, it’s the most powerful road car Ferrari has ever produced, setting a new benchmark for high-performance vehicles.

Powertrain & Performance

At the heart of the F80 is a hybrid system combining a 3.0-liter V6 internal combustion engine with electric motors. Derived from Ferrari’s Le Mans-winning 499P, the V6 engine alone produces 900 hp, while the electric motors add an extra 300 hp, bringing the total to 1,200 hp. This makes the F80 Ferrari’s most powerful V6 to date, integrating technology from Formula 1 and endurance racing. The hybrid system, using race-proven Halbach array technology, powers both the front and rear axles, maximizing performance and efficiency.

Ferrari has incorporated advanced energy recovery and battery technology, optimizing weight distribution and minimizing turbo lag for instant throttle response. The F80 generates 1,000 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, utilizing a combination of front and rear aerodynamics to deliver unmatched stability and control.

Aerodynamic Mastery

The F80’s design seamlessly integrates form and function, ensuring top-tier aerodynamic performance. Ferrari’s engineers have created a symbiotic balance between downforce and speed. The front of the F80, inspired by Formula 1 and World Endurance Championship (WEC) designs, generates 460 kg of downforce. It features a triplane wing, S-Duct, and a high central keel. An active suspension system adjusts ground clearance to maintain aerodynamic balance at high speeds.

The rear aerodynamics are equally impressive, with a rear wing and diffuser generating 590 kg of downforce. This system dynamically adjusts to real-time driving conditions, optimizing performance. Heat management is also carefully engineered, with strategically placed radiators and Ferrari-patented cooling systems minimizing aerodynamic interference while maintaining engine and brake efficiency.

Chassis & Driving Dynamics

The F80’s advanced chassis employs a multi-material approach, blending carbon fiber and aluminum for maximum strength and minimal weight. Its lightweight structure improves torsional stiffness, contributing to both speed and comfort on the road. With four-wheel drive capability, the F80 offers unparalleled handling, using independent active suspension and 3D-printed components to ensure flat cornering on the track and a smooth ride on the road.

For driving enthusiasts, Ferrari has introduced the SSC 9.0 Side Slip Control system with digital twin technology to enhance real-time predictions of vehicle behavior. The eManettino switch offers three driving modes: Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify, allowing drivers to tailor the car’s setup for different driving scenarios. The Boost Optimization system delivers an extra surge of power when needed on track sections, while the carbon-ceramic braking system co-developed with Brembo ensures superior stopping power and cooling.

A Bold Design That Blends Past and Future

Designed by Flavio Manzoni and the Ferrari Styling Centre, the F80’s exterior represents a bold step forward, combining elements from Ferrari’s F1 heritage with futuristic, aerospace-inspired aesthetics. The dihedral architecture, floating bubble cabin, and sculpted rear wing emphasize its performance-driven design. Functional features, such as NACA ducts and the louvred engine spine, not only add to the F80’s distinctive look but also enhance its aerodynamic efficiency.

Inside, the F80’s cockpit draws inspiration from Formula 1, creating an intimate, driver-centric environment. The “1+” layout positions the driver as the clear protagonist, while the passenger seat is subtly integrated into the cabin’s trim, almost disappearing from view. Compact proportions and ergonomic design ensure comfort without sacrificing performance. A newly designed steering wheel enhances grip and control, accentuating the car’s sporty feel.

Ferrari’s Genuine Maintenance Programme

To complement its cutting-edge design and performance, the F80 comes with Ferrari’s exclusive 7-year Genuine Maintenance Programme. Covering all regular maintenance for the first seven years of ownership, the program ensures that every F80 remains at peak performance with meticulous checks and original parts. This service is available worldwide, reinforcing Ferrari’s commitment to maintaining excellence and customer satisfaction.
