BMW M5 TOURING – PERFORMANCE PARTS

 In Cars

The new BMW M5 Touring from BMW M GmbH represents an exciting expansion of BMW’s high-performance lineup, adding versatile practicality to a powerful and sustainable drive system. This Touring model combines the exhilarating dynamics expected from M vehicles with a spacious interior suited for both daily use and extended trips, making it a high-performance car that fits various lifestyle needs.

Powering the M5 Touring is the advanced M HYBRID drive system, which pairs a 4.4-liter V8 engine with a fifth-generation electric motor for rapid, linear power delivery and an output of 727 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. The V8 engine itself produces 585 hp, while the electric motor adds another 197 hp, enabled by a pre-gearing system that amplifies its torque. The car is capable of fully electric driving up to 140 km/h, with a range of 61-67 km (38-42 miles) on battery power alone. For traditional performance, the M5 Touring can reach 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of up to 305 km/h (189 mph) when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package. This hybrid system is also designed to maximize fuel efficiency, achieving a combined fuel consumption of 2.0 l/100 km and emitting just 46 g/km of CO2.

The M5 Touring’s driving experience is further enhanced by M-specific technology and engineering. Power is managed through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and transferred via BMW’s M xDrive AWD, which provides a rear-biased drive in Sport mode or a pure 2WD mode for an unfiltered, track-like experience. The M5 Touring’s adaptive M suspension, Active M Differential, and near-actuator wheel slip limitation work together to offer precise handling and stability across all driving conditions. The car also features M Compound brakes, with an option to upgrade to M Carbon ceramic brakes, and large M light-alloy wheels fitted with high-performance tires.

In terms of design, the M5 Touring’s exterior blends BMW’s Touring proportions with athletic lines and M design elements that emphasize its performance character. It features large air intakes, a new kidney grille with Iconic Glow lighting, and flared wheel arches, creating a muscular yet refined look. The rear is accentuated by slim tail lights, a dual-section diffuser, and four exhaust tailpipes. Inside, the Touring continues the M-specific theme with a driver-focused cockpit, M multifunction seats, and M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display and standard BMW Head-Up Display. Additional luxury is provided by Merino leather trim, four-zone climate control, and an optional Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System.

The M5 Touring is equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems. Standard features include front collision warning, lane departure warning with steering assist, and speed limit recognition. Optional upgrades, such as the Driving Assistant Professional, add functionalities like active cruise control, steering and lane control, and automated speed adjustments. Parking Assistant Professional also allows drivers to park and maneuver the car via smartphone control.

The model’s versatile nature extends to cargo space, which ranges from 500 to 1,630 liters, with convenient access through Comfort Access and an automatic tailgate. The optional trailer hitch enables a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg, adding practical utility to its performance-oriented design.

Launching in November 2024 following its debut at Monterey Car Week, the BMW M5 Touring is targeted primarily at markets in Germany, the USA, the UK, Canada, and Switzerland. Designed to bridge daily usability with high performance, this model underscores BMW M’s commitment to electrification without sacrificing the dynamic driving experience M enthusiasts expect.
