CUBITUS – THE FIRST NEW PATEK PHILIPPE COLLECTION IN 25 YEARS

 In Watches

Patek Philippe has unveiled its first entirely new collection in 25 years, the Cubitus Collection. This much-anticipated launch is set to make waves across the watchmaking world, with three distinct models showcasing the brand’s mastery of design, complications, and refinement. Let’s dive into the key details of this collection.

A Closer Look at the Cubitus Collection

The Cubitus introduces a square case design, a departure from the curved elegance of Patek Philippe’s traditional sports-luxury models like the Nautilus and Aquanaut. This angular approach is mirrored in the dial, bezel, and overall aesthetic, which embraces sharp lines and minimalist undertones. The collection is composed of three key models:

Patek Philippe Cubitus 5821A: Crafted in stainless steel, this model carries a sleek, modern aesthetic that leans toward minimalist design. It will most likely be the most sought-after model of the collection. Crafted in stainless steel (denoted by the “A” for acier), this watch has a 45mm square case with satin-brushed finishing on the flat surfaces and polished sides, offering a balance of subtle elegance and a dynamic play of light. With an olive green horizontally ribbed sunburst dial, it recalls the aesthetic of the last steel Nautilus (5711/1A-014), which became a modern icon.

Equipped with Patek’s new caliber 26-330 S C, it features a stop-seconds mechanism that allows for precise time-setting, a touch that will appeal to collectors who appreciate subtle technical refinements. The steel bracelet, which echoes the design of the Nautilus, comes with an updated micro-adjustable clasp. This model is priced at US$41,243 and is available starting October 18th.

Patek Philippe Cubitus 5821AR: Next is the Cubitus Reference 5821/1AR, which features a two-tone case and bracelet of stainless steel and rose gold. Its deep blue dial, along with rose-gold accents on the bezel, crown, and central bracelet links, elevates the watch’s appeal, offering a luxurious alternative to its steel counterpart. Priced at US$61,276, this model provides a beautiful blend of modern and classic elements.

Patek Philippe Cubitus 5822P: The highlight of the collection is undoubtedly the Cubitus Reference 5822P in platinum. This model introduces a new complication to Patek Philippe’s repertoire: a grand date at 12 o’clock, with day and moon-phase indicators. Powered by the new caliber 240 PS CI J LU, the watch boasts six patents for its instantaneous grand date, which jumps precisely in just 18 milliseconds. The dial is a deep blue, matching the composite strap, and features baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel—a nod to the brand’s history of discreet luxury. Priced at US$88,378, this timepiece is designed to be both technically impressive and aesthetically striking.

Cubitus vs. Nautilus: A New Icon in the Making?

Comparisons to the Nautilus are inevitable. After all, it remains one of the most coveted watches in Patek Philippe’s portfolio. But the Cubitus is not here to replace the Nautilus; rather, it seeks to complement it by appealing to a different kind of collector. While the Nautilus’ rounded bezel evokes a sense of timeless elegance, the Cubitus brings a fresh, avant-garde energy to the table. It’s a statement piece for those unafraid to embrace change, while still valuing the meticulous craftsmanship that Patek Philippe is known for.

Collectors and enthusiasts alike will undoubtedly debate whether the Cubitus will rise to the same legendary status as the Nautilus, but one thing is clear: Patek Philippe is not resting on its laurels. The introduction of the Cubitus collection proves that the brand is unafraid to push boundaries and redefine what luxury means in the modern age.
