Time Goes Fast – The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon

Start Your Engines. The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron 16 Cylinder Tourbillon recreates the famous Bugatti W16 engine in a timepiece. Visible from the top and through the Bugatti horseshoe grill, the animation and the inclined tourbillon are perfectly positioned to share this amazing movement with your friends.

This new $280,000 timepiece is an homage to the 1,500-horsepower Bugatti Chiron hypercar. The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon houses an amazing mechanical  replica of the Buatti’s signature W16 engine.

Layered beneath a sapphire crystal and suspended within four “shock absorbers,” the masterpiece miniature motor actually moves. Push the right-hand crown and the turbos spool, the crankshaft turns over, and even the 16 tiny pistons pump up and down. Have a closer look – yes, it even has a functioning “fuel reserve” that monitors the watches 60-hour power reserve. But unlike a tourbillon, the animated component of the watch has no horological purpose and exists for visual impact only. The automaton (engine movement) lasts 20 seconds and can be activated three times before it needs to be rewound.

The actual caliber JCAM37 movement of the Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron 16 Cylinder Tourbillon consists of 578-components and is manually wound, with a one-minute tourbillon inclined on a 30-degree angle. A Bugatti horseshoe-shaped window shows the tourbillon, and the titanium case is inspired by the flowing lines of the Chiron. At 44 mm wide, 54 mm long and 20 mm thick, it is rather big. Like several other Jacob & Co watches, the sides are made of sapphire crystal, creating a window into the mechanism.

The watch can be customized with different colours or set with gems. Jacob & Co will produce 250 pieces.
